It’s All About Gases!
Last school season we learned about the three states of matter–solid, liquid, and gas. In the beginning of the first quarter of our school year we try to focus more on learning about gas before we move on to the other states of matter. Science is something new for our K1’s. With the help of our K2’s and K3’s we gave a short introduction to our new kinders about solid, liquid, and gas before we did the experiments.
Gas, as we all know is something that is not visible in the naked eye unlike solids and liquids. However, we can detect the presence of gas through the first two series of experiments that we did–the drinking candle and the blow up balloon experiments.
In our first science experiment we showed how gas molecules behave when they are heated using candles, colored water and a glass. In our second experiment last Friday, we showed the kids how to blow a balloon effortlessly by mixing vinegar and baking soda to produce a gas called carbon dioxide.
The kids were thrilled as they see the magic of science unfold right before their very eyes. Some kids were saying “One more more time please!” while the others say “Show me please!”
